Advice on telephone calls to USA from Italy

Thanks for the comment, CJ.

Using your phone card from a international mobile phone can be tricky. Many mobile phones block phone cards from being used while others charge high fees to connect as it appears is the case with your mobile plan. We have no control over how the mobile providers decide to treat phone cards used from their phones.

My best recommendation would be to try and use the phone card from a landline, hotel phone, or payphone, but as you stated, that may not be possible for you. If your calling needs are just for using the phone to call home and check in, I don't know if signing up for their billed plan would be the way to go (I don't know what the cost comparison is, so all I can tell you is what I would do if I was in your situation). If using a mobile phone is more your preference, you may want to see if there is another service that would be more affordable.

One alternative that would dramatically cut your costs is to make your calls from a computer connected to the Internet, using a ZapTel phone card that supports Internet Dialing. Then you will receive the same rate as if you had made the call from the USA to the USA. Look for the ZapTel cards with the "Internet Dialing" feature.
