An Explanation of Pay Phone Surcharges with Phone Cards

“Why do phone cards have pay phone surcharges, even on cards that shouldn’t have other fees?”
This is a question that comes up from time to time even though, these days, many people use phone cards from either landlines or mobile phones. I wanted to take a minute to explain why all phone cards have payphone surcharges no matter if they’re a flat-rate per minute or not.
