Phone cards you can use to place calls from your computer – VoIP Dialing

January 5th, 2009

"How can I use a phone card from my computer to place calls?"

Phone cards are a versatile communication tool and many ZapTel phone cards can literally work from any phone in any place at any time, including your computer.

If you want to use your computer to place calls but don’t want to sign up for a service, a ZapTel phone card with internet dialing is a great option.  You’re not tied into any service and you’re able to make international phone cards from anywhere in the world at low USA rates.

ZapTel offers internet dialing on the following phone cards:

To use Internet Dialing with these phone cards, you need to have the following:

  1. A broadband or high speed internet connection.
  2. A PC with Windows 2000 or better or a Mac with OS X 10.4 or better.  (I use my phone card from my laptop with Windows XP.)
  3. A microphone and speakers connected to your computer. (I have a headset that plugs into the USB on my laptop that works really well.)

To use the phone card with this equipment, you also need to configure an SIP client or softphone to place calls.  The one I use and recommend is Counterpath’s X-Lite Softphone.  The download is free and easy to use.

Is there an easier way to Is there an easier way to use VoIP without needing to download and installing anything? That’d be slick.

    Thanks.

It’s pretty simple, but not that simple

No.  You at least need the software that acts like a phone on your computer.  We provide instructions to download a free one.  Then with the appropriate headset so you have a microphone, you can initiate calls on your Internet-connected laptop from anywhere in the world at the low USA to the world rates on your ZapTel phone card, such as Call the World.  Ron
