Severed Mediterranean Cables May Affect Phone Card Calls to Europe, Asia & Middle East
December 22nd, 2008
"I’ve been trying to place a call overseas since Friday, December 19th, but my calls are not connecting. Why is this?"
If you’ve been trying to call some European, Asian, or Middle Eastern countries since Friday, December 19th and have not been able to connect, a severed cabel in the Mediteranean may be the cause.
Bloomberg News is reporting that both internet and telephone connections in these three regions have been affected by three severed undersea cables running between Egypt and Italy. These cables carry over 75% of traffic from America to the Middle East, Europe, and some Asian countries.
Our phone card carriers are working on making routing changes to provide service for our customers while the cables are being repaired. Some are reporting that an estimated time of resolution will be between December 22nd and December 31, 2008.
If you’ve been trying to place a call to these regions and your calls are failing, this is the likely cause.
If you have any questions about this, please send us an e-mail at support@zaptel.com and one of our representatives will do their best to assist you.
