Tips to make sure a phone card will work for you

June 23rd, 2008

How can I make sure a phone card will work from my phone before I use it?

I never like buying something only to find out that it won’t work. Here are 3 tips to consider before buying a phone card to make sure that the card will work from your phone:

Always use a touch tone phone

Phone card networks connect off of a series of tones which begins when you use a touch tone phone. If you use a pulse phone, those tones are not there and the carrier’s network will not recognize what you are trying to dial.

Test the access number from your phone

All of ZapTel’s phone cards have at least one toll free access number available. Before you purchase a phone card, you can test this number - at no cost to you - to make sure your phone can properly dial into the carrier’s network. If you dial the number and are asked for a PIN, then that card will work from the phone you’re dialing from.

Decide what features are most important to you

Many of ZapTel’s phone cards have some very useful features that may be important for you like recharge, PINzap™ Pinless Dialing, Speed Dial, and online call detail records. I find that the PINzap™ Pinless Dialing is my favorite of these features because I can set up my phone card so I don’t have to enter my PIN each time I make a phone call. PINzap™ works like a caller ID when set up, so if you have your phone number blocked from caller ID’s, it is possible that this function will not work for you.

As always, if you need help finding the best phone card for your calling needs, let us know. Contact ZapTel’s Customer Service at and a representative will be happy to assist you.
