Preparing your phone card for use when you travel

June 9th, 2008

What should I prepare to have with me to make calls when I travel outside the U.S.?

Now that you’ve chosen the best global card for your calling needs, there are a few more things you can do to prepare yourself to use your card while you travel. Here are 3 tips I tell customers when they ask about using their phone card outside the U.S.:

Use Print-n-Go™ to print out all your card details

This is a helpful one page print out where you can put all your calling details. You can include all the access numbers for where you will need to be calling from.

  1. Log on to your ZapTel account with your e-mail address and password.
  2. Locate the grey box titled PIN Options.
  3. Click on the Print-n-Go™ link.
  4. A new screen will pop up with an image of your phone card. To add the access numbers for where you’ll be calling from, click on Build your access number list.
  5. Do a search for the country you’ll be calling from.
  6. Click on the numbers you’d like to add to your print out and press Save numbers to Print-n-Go™. If there is more than one phone number for where you’ll be, I suggest you take all of them. If there are local and toll free numbers listed for a country, take all of those as well.

Review the dialing instructions.

Even if you’ve printed them out, it’s best to look over the dialing instructions so you’re familiar with what you’ll need to do once you need to make a call.

Read any additional notes listed with the access numbers

You may have already done this before you purchased your phone card, but if you’re like me, I sometimes need a refresher before I need to use it. This way, if you have any questions before you leave, you can contact ZapTel’s Customer Service and one of our representatives will be happy to answer your questions.

ZapTel carries 7 global phone cards for you to choose from depending on your overall calling need:
