Find a country code to place an international call with your phone card

May 25th, 2008

Where can I find the country code for where I’m calling to?

ZapTel has put together a quick reference of the world’s country codes to help you dial a phone number outside the U.S.

Click here to see the list of international calling codes.

When placing a call from the U.S. to an international location, you’ll need to dial like this:

011 + Country Code + City Code + Number

However, some countries dial just like you would if you were calling the U.S. On our list of country codes, these are listed with a 1 + a 3-digit country code. This 3-digit country code is the equivalent of a U.S. area code.

For example, if you’re calling to Guam, you’d dial like this:

1 + 671 + Number

An important thing to remember when dialing from the U.S. is that if someone gives you a phone number and they put 00 in front of the country code, you do not need to dial the 00. For example, if someone gives you a phone number to dial in the UK and it looks like this…

+0044 9999 888 777

…you do not need to dial the 00 in front of the 44. Here’s how you would dial this number from the U.S.:

011 + 44 + 9999 + 888 + 777
